How to Create Ringtones for the Motorola Droid

Since it was released in late 2009, the Motorola Droid has become one of the most popular smartphones on the market. Just like all cell phones, it comes with some sounds preloaded that can be selected as ringtones and other notification tones.

But the Droid also allows for a certain amount of customization. The easiest and most popular way to customize the Droid is to create ringtones. Express your personality, or just hear your favorite song every time someone calls you.

Edit

  1. 1
Go to Google Code or the Android Market app on your Droid and download Ringdroid, the Google-created application for creating ringtones using the Droid's own interface.
  2. 2
Ensure you have songs loaded on your Droid.
  3. 3
Open Ringdroid. An index of songs stored on your phone's SD card will automatically appear.

  4. 4
Select a song to use for your ringtone.

  5. 5
Use the arrows on the screen to choose the beginning and end of your new ringtone, or enter the start and end times manually. You don't just have to use the first few seconds of the song.

  6. 6
Use the "Save As" dropdown menu to save the edited file as a ringtone. You can also save it as an alarm or notification.

  7. 7
    Click "Save."

  8. 8
Select your newly created ringtone to be used whenever your Droid rings.
